Sewer : City's Maintenance Program

Every year the Public Works Department cleans approximately 1/2 of the city's sanitary sewer system as part of its annual maintenance program.  Although this maintenance is very costly and time consuming, the sewer system is cleaned in order to remove the troublesome sand, grease, and other restrictions that can cause sewer backups.

Over the past few years, the Public Works Department has noticed an increase in the maintenance required for certain sewer lines that have been clogged due to roots and grease.

Trees are a major producer of the troublesome roots that cause the sewer lines to clog up.  The city is working to resolve these problems by rodding and jetting.
